High-quality CFRP laminate plates manufactured from carbon fibre prepreg, with a smooth, glossy finish on both sides.
Carbon Fibre Plates DESIGN are solid, compression-moulded CFRP laminates without a foam or honeycomb core. Depending on plate thickness, the laminate lay-up consists of carbon fabric prepreg combined with additional unidirectional carbon prepreg plies. The result is a lightweight, stiff and dimensionally stable laminate suitable for model making, UAVs, mechanical engineering, metrology, automotive applications and motorsport.

Carbon Fibre Plates DESIGN are manufactured from carbon fibre prepreg with an epoxy resin matrix using a compression moulding process. The high degree of consolidation produces a homogeneous CFRP laminate with high strength and stiffness at low weight. The smooth, glossy finish on both sides clearly displays the characteristic carbon fabric structure and can be used directly as a technical cosmetic surface.

These are solid CFRP laminate plates. The complete cross-section consists of carbon fibre-reinforced epoxy resin; there is no foam, honeycomb or other sandwich core. This makes the plates particularly suitable for components requiring high stiffness, low weight, reliable load introduction and direct machining through the laminate thickness.

Laminate Lay-Up

The laminate configuration is adapted to the respective plate thickness. Thin plates consist of carbon fabric prepreg, while thicker plates incorporate additional unidirectional carbon prepreg plies. Fibre orientation has a direct influence on laminate stiffness and strength in the principal load directions.

The exact ply configuration is specified for each plate variant. For components subjected to directional loading, the fibre orientation should be taken into account during structural design.

The mechanical properties of CFRP depend on both laminate lay-up and fibre orientation. A 0° unidirectional laminate provides significantly higher stiffness and strength in the fibre direction than a balanced 0°/90° laminate. For structural design, plate thickness alone is therefore not sufficient; load direction and fibre orientation must also be considered.

Typical Applications

Typical applications include chassis plates, base plates, brackets, supports and structural components for UAVs and RC models, model aircraft components, fixtures and measuring assemblies in mechanical engineering, as well as technical components for automotive applications and motorsport.

The smooth, glossy carbon surface can also be used directly for visible components. For permanent outdoor exposure, a suitable UV-resistant clear coating is recommended to protect the epoxy resin matrix from long-term UV degradation.

Machining

The plates can be sawn, milled, drilled and waterjet cut. Carbide or diamond-coated tooling is particularly suitable for achieving clean edges and good tool life. Thin plates should be adequately supported and securely clamped during machining to minimise vibration and edge breakout.

When drilling or milling, sharp tooling, appropriate feed rates and controlled heat generation are recommended. Carbon dust is electrically conductive; effective dust extraction should therefore be used during dry machining, and sensitive electrical or electronic equipment in the working area should be protected accordingly.
